Technical Specifications
Millions of working hours are spend every year stirring coffee. The coffee is usually stirred without much attension and stirred to long. The Hand Coffee Stirring Machine (HCSM) presented here is a modern and efficient solution to these problems.
principle
Working principle.
The machine works like this:
  • Explanation of the Working Principle:
The Hand Coffee Stirring Machine is an attempt to emulate the perfect stirring motion. Analysing the perfect stirring motion one finds it to be slightly elliptical and having a slow and a fast phase. The machine works like this:
The mechanical part includes a clamp that can be clamped on the rim of the cup, and a stirring mechanism that is basically a combination of two levers connected to each other so that the circular horizontal crank movement is transformed into a vertical ellipsoid spoon motion (see fig.3). The fast and slow phase are effectuated by the shifting of the crankpoint (P) moving to and from the turning point (A).
  • Materials Used:
The clamp is made of sanded wood (optionally stained). The stirring mechanism is made entirely from 1.5mm galvanised iron wire. Only non-toxic materials are used.
  • Note on the Production:
While designing the machine, a conscious decision was made in favour of sober and simple materials. This was done with the consumer and the producer in mind: The consumer knows the materials used and is familiar with the technology of the clamp. A modern producer will make use of the gigantic production capacity of the third world, many times bigger than that of all the Japanese robot tools together. The only condition is that the design must fit in the third world situation: The materials, but also the investments, tools and distribution should be adapted.
  • This Hand Coffee Stirring Machine is based on third world production technology.
